The following is an opinion, it is important that you seek professional help if you feel that your teenager is addicted to video games.

Teenage video game addiction is a serious problem in today’s society. More so than at any other time in the past, teenagers addiction to video games have resulted in a complete withdrawal from their family’s, friends and society in general.

Teenagers are substituting their real world friends for their newon the webfriends, and slowly drifting away from reality. This is a concern that should be treated as seriously as alcohol or gambling addiction, since it the long term negative effects on the teens and teens family lives are of a severe magnitude. Teens who reject other interests in their lives in favor of video gaming to the point complete withdrawal from family and friends can have consequences far beyond isolation. Video game addiction can be resolved, if it addressed early on, but there are steps that need to be taken to cut the vicious cycle of video game addiction early on.

Unfortunately, recognizing teenager’s video game addiction isn’t an easy task. The problem occurs in distinguishing between healthy video gaming as opposed to excessive playing of video games. But first, it is important to know that, often, video game addiction will oftenbegin as a simple interest in video games and then transcends from that point to an addiction. Realizing that there’s an addiction is unfortunately a very difficult one, due to the expected denial of addiction from the teenager. In essence, a teenager will do his or her ideal to convince you that they are not addicted to playing video games. The first step to recognizing video game addiction can often be noticed when a teenager begins to exhibit behaviors outside of his or normal routine. For example, if your teen is now staying up later and sleeping in later, missing school, dropping grades, ignoring phone calls from friends and other negative directions that are unusualfor the teenager.

It comes down to your interest in your teens life, and if you notice that your teenager’s school grades degrading, or when you notice that they are no longer communicating with their friends or with you, you need to step in and address the issue with your teen. Remember, video game addiction is no different than a gambling addiction or any other type of addiction, teenagers will lie and deceive you and fight you if they feel that you’re imposing on their game time.

Like other addictions, video game addictions often arise with behavioral changes like a teenager’s lack of patience, being swift to anger, or over-react to mundane situations.

Are there solutions to your child’s video game addiction? The answer is always yest, but it’s important that you realize it early on, before it gets out of control, and that’s why it’s important that you restrict video game access by involving your child on external activities like music, sports etc. Unfortunately, if the issue gets out of control, you often need to involve external help, whether it be with Psychologists, mentors etc.

In essence, it is important that you stop video game addiction early, but if you’re in a bind and your teenager is beyond your control, do not hesitate to seek external assistance to his or her video game addictions.
