For those of you just starting out with gaming, you may have become intrigued by the possibility of playingon the webgames, with other gamers just like you. The world ofon the webgaming is a serious business, meaning that players who are onlinetend to be fanatical to the point of beingtotally emerssed / addicted toon the webgaming. That doesn’t mean that you should avoidon the webgaming altogether, but you should learn a few basic rules before jumping into the world ofon the internet gaming.

If you are new to gaming though, it’s wise to forego onlinegaming until you’ve become familiar with gaming in general, that means reading the game manual and developing a respectable level of experience with the game. In essence, you will need to play offline until you have developed a comfort level with the game in question.
Another vital aspect of learning to playon the webis to search the internet for game related discussion groups, FAQ’s, and walkthroughs of the game you are playing. Learn as much as you can on the kind of information you want to learn includes how to play, how to create characters, how to gather equipment, and how to implement some smart strategies, in other words, do your “homework.” Online gamers, especially those who have devoted a considerable amount of their time, don’t want to sit there guiding you through the game because you were too lazy to do some research yourself. Quite frankly, you can’t blame them, they’re there to play not teach, and your role is to learn as they did, through hard work.

You’ll also need a high speed Internet connection, dial-up is bad news, it’s bad news. Unless you are willing to invest in highspeed, you should continue playing offline. Ensure that yourpersonal is up to date and is able to hand the pace of today’s games. In essence, get a good sound card, video card, good processor and highspeed Internet connection.

Online gaming can be fun, but you need to do your homework if you plan to join this exciting world. But if you follow the above steps and do your homework, you’ll be welcomed into theon the internet gaming world like an old friend, or enemy if you will.

The following is an opinion, it is important that you seek professional help if you feel that your teenager is addicted to video games.

Teenage video game addiction is a serious problem in today’s society. More so than at any other time in the past, teenagers addiction to video games have resulted in a complete withdrawal from their family’s, friends and society in general.

Teenagers are substituting their real world friends for their newon the webfriends, and slowly drifting away from reality. This is a concern that should be treated as seriously as alcohol or gambling addiction, since it the long term negative effects on the teens and teens family lives are of a severe magnitude. Teens who reject other interests in their lives in favor of video gaming to the point complete withdrawal from family and friends can have consequences far beyond isolation. Video game addiction can be resolved, if it addressed early on, but there are steps that need to be taken to cut the vicious cycle of video game addiction early on.

Unfortunately, recognizing teenager’s video game addiction isn’t an easy task. The problem occurs in distinguishing between healthy video gaming as opposed to excessive playing of video games. But first, it is important to know that, often, video game addiction will oftenbegin as a simple interest in video games and then transcends from that point to an addiction. Realizing that there’s an addiction is unfortunately a very difficult one, due to the expected denial of addiction from the teenager. In essence, a teenager will do his or her ideal to convince you that they are not addicted to playing video games. The first step to recognizing video game addiction can often be noticed when a teenager begins to exhibit behaviors outside of his or normal routine. For example, if your teen is now staying up later and sleeping in later, missing school, dropping grades, ignoring phone calls from friends and other negative directions that are unusualfor the teenager.

It comes down to your interest in your teens life, and if you notice that your teenager’s school grades degrading, or when you notice that they are no longer communicating with their friends or with you, you need to step in and address the issue with your teen. Remember, video game addiction is no different than a gambling addiction or any other type of addiction, teenagers will lie and deceive you and fight you if they feel that you’re imposing on their game time.

Like other addictions, video game addictions often arise with behavioral changes like a teenager’s lack of patience, being swift to anger, or over-react to mundane situations.

Are there solutions to your child’s video game addiction? The answer is always yest, but it’s important that you realize it early on, before it gets out of control, and that’s why it’s important that you restrict video game access by involving your child on external activities like music, sports etc. Unfortunately, if the issue gets out of control, you often need to involve external help, whether it be with Psychologists, mentors etc.

In essence, it is important that you stop video game addiction early, but if you’re in a bind and your teenager is beyond your control, do not hesitate to seek external assistance to his or her video game addictions.

What makes a game fun to play? Why are some games universally accepted and loved by millions, like World Of Warcraft, while other games slip into the abyss of forgotten games? As you know, video games are large big business, and billions of dollars are made annually selling and reselling video games, marketing video games and creating video games. Often, Video game developers risk their future on games, and therefore need their games to be a hit and help the company become prosperous, or go into bankruptcy.

One of the reasons some games do not ever make it has more to do with the programmers than you would suspect. Often, video game company’s, in their attempt to capitalize on a new trend or fad, will virtually auto-generate a video game with no regard for playability, Rhyme or Reason. Many games are released onto the market, often what appears to be untested and unplayable. Many of these games are rehashed story-lines with different characters and often poor programming leaves the consumer in the cold.

But we can’t blame the video game programmer for all that’s wrong with a video game, because there is much more to a video game than the engine, there are graphics and story-boards that need to be created, and if the story is uninteresting, the ideal video game programmer in the world will not be able to save it. So what makes a video game interesting?
First, let’s break down what most video games have in common. There is often a main character that you choosefrom the main menu who will be your eyes in the adventure. The main character needs to be an extension of the player, so in essence, the player mus be in control of the character at all times, there’s nothing worse than a character that does it’s own thing regardless the player’s wishes. That means that game play should never be random, but the result of a properly programmed game controls that gives the player a sense of full control.

Secondly, a game needs to be easy to start, immediately. There is nothing worse than having to study an elaborate 1000 page manual in order to get started, especially in today’s society where most kids do not read books. The game needs to be easy to learn and play right out of the package, and that means the programmer needs to put the needs of the player above his or her own desire for greatness.

Third, a game needs to be easy to navigate, you don’t want to offer too many choices early on in a game if ever and that means that there needs to be an easily followed story that compels a player early on. You don’t have to program for a preschooler but do not forget that people are playing games as entertainment, and overly complex and hard to follow games are usually tossed in the trash.

Fourth, you need action, action and more action. In fact, the more action in a game the more interested players will be. But that doesn’t mean that you want repetitive and brainless action that leaves players wondering what the hell video game company was smoking when they designed the game. A good video game needs action that fits within the story, that is, action that makes sense. The more action in a video game, the more a player needs to be involved and therefore the more appealing it will be.

Fifth, plenty of eye candy. Video game enthusiasts will not settle for grainy ill conceived graphics, we anticipate much more refined and smartly designed characters and landscapes. That doesn’t mean that the graphics should be a distraction in the game, on the contrary, the graphics need to be seamless, and enticing. The betterthe graphics the more avid video game players will be enticed to replay a game, and that means they’ll be more inclined to buy the sequel.

Sixth, make the game feel real. people need to feel a connection to the characters they’re playing and a character who has no ‘soul’ can destroy the essence of the game. Although this is without doubt the hardest thing for a video game developer to accomplish, adding life to a video game will turn a good game into a great game that’ll be respected by all levels of video gamers.

There are many other small factors that’ll make a video game either enjoyable or not, but the above mentioned are the biggest reason for the success or failure of a video game. That said, it is not always possible to gauge the success of a video game on the above alone, because as often happens, there will always be a game thattotally contradicts all logic and becomes successful, but then again, those games are one in a million and therefore not worth investing the future of your video game company on.

The Internet has brought us some wonderful entertainment and online games for kids is one of them. Online games grant parents to have the children entertained while while they cook, clean and do all the things that parents do. But the onlineworld can also be a perilous one, and child supervision should be of the utmost importance to the parent, that often, parents are left wondering whether safeon the web games are a fact or myth.

It only takes a couple of clicks of the mouse for a child to stray from a child safeon the webplay environment to a potentially harmful one. As mentioned before,on the internet games for kids have come a long way and child safety has been a priority many websites like treehousetv.com and Nickjr.com just to name a couple. Sites such as these have made the kids the first priority, and the quality of games are of very high standards, if just a bit commercialized. A website needs to take a number of issues into consideration when offering kids online games, including entertainment, education, safety and kid friendly.

For young children, it issuggested that sites like the ones listed above be the only source ofon the webentertainment. But for older kids, those sites won’t suffice, children get bored easily. There are many onlinegame sites that claim to offer a safe inter-active community basedon the webgaming environment, but one needs to be careful when assuming the safety of anon the webgaming environment. For starters, there’s no such thing as a safe interactiveon the webgame environment, period, regardless of the safety restrictions anon the internet gaming community claims to adhere to or how safe their servers are. The point is, most of theseon the webgaming communities all have one major flaw that makes them inherently unsafe, and that’s the real-time chat programs that players and their characters can interact with other players and characters. The online chat, often makeson the internet gaming much more fun, but it is often done so at the expense of safety. There is no way for you children to know who they’re really speaking to, so it is advisable that unless you’re planning to monitor your child’son the internet game time frombegin to finish, that you find substitute online games that offer real-time chat.

Safeon the webgames for kids can be achieved, but it often requires your full attention as a parent, and unless you are willing to dedicate hours of your time, overseeing your child’son the webgaming, you are best restricting theiron the internet gaming time to non-interactive websites that are designed with a zero community interactivity in mind, this may not be the best of fun for your kids, but in this way they’ll be kept safe online.

Educational Online Games for kids have developed quite rapidly over the last ten years. Often, educational games offer helpful instruction of math, reading and writing as well as problem solving skills just to name a few. This is important for parents who want their kids involved withpersonal at an early age so that they can be familiar with technology in general. Today’s parents, more than anytime before, are finding themselves with less time to share with their kids, whether it be due to working multiple jobs or taking work home, there is no denying that it isvery hard to be an active participant in your child’s life. There is a genuine need for parents to have their kids be self-monitored as the child interacts with educational games. The need for this is obvious as it will help the child performsuperior in school, and can lead tosuperior grades and help improve an assortment of motor skills.

The issue with educational games is not always positive though, as it may lead to addiction to the games, often at the expense of school. The key then, is to find a middle ground where parents can be involved in their children’s activities, without having to expend a Largeportion of their work time. This of course, isn’t an easy task, and often parents find themselves overburdened by the demands put on them and their diminishing time. The expectation by many parents is to let the educational software guide the child, free of adult supervision. Although this may seem a bit like remote parenting, it is unfortunately the crisis facing many parents today.

With this in mind, parents need software that can both instruct their kids while beingpleasingand therefore motivational. The games themselves need to cover a wide range of subjects, primarily in sync with the child’s daily schooling, and therefore, activities like mathematics, The Alphabet, English and so on need to be presented in a form that does not appear to be an educational lesson. In essence, if the games need to be designed in a fashion that entertainment is always the decisive theme. The entertainment value of games can take on many different genres of activities, such as music & dance, Nursery Rhymes, Puzzles and so on. The use of many of these different devices to stimulate the child’s interest in the game should be affective in keeping the child’s interest in the game.

Although the expectation of many parents is that the educational game will guide the child without the need for Parental intervention, this is not always the case. As often happens, especially with onlinegame sites like Treehouse or PBSKids, parents find that their child is often stumped and in need of assistance. The games themselves don’t often have built in contingency plans when the child needs assistance, or if it does, it’s not always properly developed to the point where the child feels confident in continuing without asking mom or father for assistance.

Will Educational Games for Kids be robust enough to offer children a fun and engaging play environment where the parents can take a remote parenting approach, or will there always be a need for parental intervention? At this stage in Video game development, we’re not yet at a point where thepersonal can do everything that a parent can, this may change but we aren’t there yet. It appears that parents will need to involve themselves in their children activities, including educational games, and after all that can be a very good thing.

Online games have gained much popularity over the last 10 years, primarily due to the introduction of high-speed Internet. Without a faster Internet connection,on the webgames as we know it would be much much different. But there’s another reason why onlinegames have flourished and that’s the ever increasing demand for newer and bettergames.

People love video Games because they make us feel good, it helps us forget about our mundane life and helps waste a boring day. Video games also help relieve stress, in essence, when we aren’t thinking about our troubles the daily stress is also forgotten. Online games are muchsuperior at help fight stress than listening to music, for example. The reason being that Games force us to focus our conscious attention on the task at hand, while listening to music is for the most part, a passive activity.

There is a fine line between stress reduction and stress enhancement. Often, people who are heavily addicted to online gaming tend to become even more stressed that they normally are in their life outside of the game. This is more obvious inon the internet games that require precise timing and planning, or team work, and the level of stress can escalate dramatically. It is not unusual for kids and adults to throw a game controller across the room or yell profusely, some have been know to wreck their computersor game boxes. The point is, games can be a definite stress reducer if used intelligently, but taken too seriously, video games can do the exact opposite and bring extreme levels of stress into our lives. The choice remains with you, are you willing to let a game ruin your health, or will you take control of the situation at hand and know when enough i’s enough?

These games will keep you entertained for hours and days, absolutelyimmersing you in a world of entertainment. Be careful, onlinegames can be very addictive, it’ssuggested that you move away from games if you find that you are spending more time at yourpersonal than with your family. We will touch on game addiction in later posts, butThis day I’ll outline a few of the more popular game genres available for you to play on the web.

Arcade Games:Arcade Games are possibly the easiest games to enjoyimmediately with very Littlelearning involved. The term Arcade Games is derived from the games that were popular at the local Arcade, like PacMan, Donkey Kong, Galaga and so on. These games were very easy to learn butvery difficult to master, and soon became an addiction that took the world by storm. The term Arcade Games transcended the physical Arcade and made its way into the Virtual Arcade, the Online Arcade. In keeping within the same scope, Online Arcade Games are very simple to learn but usually hard to master and can involve shoot ‘em ups, mazes, and an assortment of other sub-genres.

Board Games: Board Games have been popular for hundreds if not thousands of years, and usually involve a physical playing area (The Board) and a number of items (Pieces) that you manipulate within a predetermined set of rules. Board Games like Chess and Checkers are probably the most famous, but there are literally hundreds if not thousands of board games that you can play. Theon the webboard games are no different, often traditional board games have been programmed foron the internet play. Often, traditional games are given a totallynew spin which can offer a verypleasingtime for all.

Strategy Games: These are the games, which take considerable time to play and complete. The player has to apply his mindcompletelyto devise strategies to play and win. Most people who enjoy Strategy Games find them very addicting because these games may are difficult to master.

Card Games: Online Card Games are simply traditional card games that have been programmed foron the webplay. Possibly the most famous is Online Poker, but you’ve also got hundreds of Solitaire games and thousands of other card games to waste away the day. Online Card Games often develop quite a following and tend to be popular with all age groups.

RPG Games: RPG is an Acronym for Role Playing Games, and like the name suggests, this type of game is designed on the premise that all playersselect anone-of-a-kindcharacter (Role) that they either create or choose to complete specific tasks or challenges that are laid out in the sequence of the game. Characters have become incredibly complex and can include traditional beings like Sorcerers and Knights to more modern Aliens and Unnamed creatures. RPG Games have developed aBig following due in part to the popularity of games like Dungeons & Dragons, which are popular bothon the weband physical group play.

Casino Games: Casino Games are virtual Casinos playedon the internet and often for real money. Just like the real world Casinos,on the internet Casino Games are extremely addictive and have been responsible for creating a new era of gambling addicts. Casino Games can also be played for virtual money and credits and can often be sponsored by real world Casinos (No surprise here).

Puzzle and Brain Games: The Puzzle and Brain Games are intended to sharpen your wits. Often, you’re challenged to solve easy puzzles, with the option of setting your skills on ever increasingly tougher puzzles. Puzzle Games can include Crossword Puzzles as well as Maze Challenges, and can include a plethora of other ingenious games. The Brain Games can include math challenges, Logical Sequence challenges and so on. Puzzle and Brain Games have definitely carved out a solid Niche for itself and is enjoyed by all age groups.

Sports Games: Sports Games are virtual versions of a real or invented sport. Possibly the first Sports Games was Pong, which was a virtual Ping Pong Game, todaythere are lots of versions of Ping Pong as well as Tennis, Soccer, Hockey, Football, Baseball and so on. You do not have to be a sports fanto care aboutsports games since the games themselves offerone-of-a-kindchallenges that are a source of great entertainment for all ages.

All of these game genres can often be interchangeable, and smart game programmers have done excellent jobs blurring the lines between them. That said, most onlinegame communities have concisely marked out each genre for your convenience. Free Online Games are fun, challenging and often frustratingly addictive, enjoy anon the webgame today.

There are numerous video games sites on the Internet that let you playon the webvideo games for free. Most of the video games that you can play are based on either Flash or Java.

Whether you prefer Arcade type games, Board Games, Puzzles Games, RPG, Simulation Video games and so on, you can find it on the net for free. It helps to read reviews before investing your time, it will help you find the games that everyone enjoys. Many of you may already own a Nintendo Wii, X-Box or Sony Playstation, but the type of games availableon the webdiffer. They are usually games that you can either complete in one sitting and don’t have many features beyond the addictiveness. Those of you who enjoy popular simulation games like Guitar Hero World Tour will be out of luck, there are no comparable games online, but that is not to state there aren’t really cool music genre inspired video games. The point withon the webgames is that it is there to help you spend some time, keeping yourself entertained while playing a video game. The great thing is thaton the internet games don’t require total dedication, or months and even years of constant playing, and best of all, onlinegames can often be learned in the first few minutes without the aid of the FAQ, they are that straight forward.

For those of you who are serious gamers, then you already know that there are tons of great sites out there offering reviews on video games for your X-Box or Playstation, there’s exhaustive information from RPG games like World of Warcraft, which has developed a cult following, and believe me, these gamers are serious about their games, and not all gamers are kids, in fact many if not most are 20+ years of age.

That it for now. We’ll cover more of this on future posts.
